Butterfly Birthday

Today's post is another birthday card. If you are like me, you use birthday cards more than any other, and it is really nice to have a few pretty ones on had both for those birthdays that you know are coming up, as well as for surprise birthdays that were not planned for ahead of time. It is nice to just go to my card stash and pick an already-made-card for that spur-of-the-moment situation when there is just not time to make a card, but one is needed ASAP.

So, today's card is for the "stockpile."

I used a pretty butterfly paper placed on top of a blue-on-blue polka dot paper. There was a doily lying around and I decided to cut out the center of it; I took a needle and thread and went around the inside edge and gathered the paper and pulled the gathers down to the right size. On top of it is the same polka dot paper and the sentiment which was printed from my computer, punched with a scallop punch, then popped up on a larger scallop punch. Blue liquid pearl dots were placed around the outside edge. A little double-looped gingham bow was attached; a green Spellbinders "Sprigs" die cut was placed over another block of polka dot paper and a double-layered Memory Box Pippi Butterfly was placed on one of the foliage leaves.

Here is the card:

Monochromatic Yellow 1 Corinthians 13:7

Today's card is one of my favorite combinations:  yellow, black and white. Yellow just seems to pop when paired with these other colors, and makes a bold statement.

I used a SU Floral stamp and punched it out with the coordinating Pansy Punch. Another SU punch was used for the branches, as well as a Martha Stewart Five-Leaf Punch. Another MS punch, Royal Butterfly was used to punch out three butterflies in different papers; a silver-grey liquid pearl was placed on the center of each butterfly. The sentiment was printed from my computer. The ribbon is actually two ribbons, one glued on top of the other, then both of them placed on a black strip of paper for contrast. A very large rhinestone is glued to the center of the flower.

Three-Dimensional Thank You

Today I want to enter another card at Joan's Touch for this week's challenge which calls for us to use at least one item sold at Joan's Gardens and an image which is layered. We may use any color.

This is an image of a black and white butterfly resting on some red and orange flowers, die cut with three different sizes of a Sizzix Scalloped Oval die. It is on a Darice Checkerboard EF background that is inked with orange and red inks. Three leaves from a Finishing Touches Fern Die Trio die cut set are placed in back of the image. These die cuts were included as a little gift in the last order I got from Terri at Joan's Gardens, and I loved them so much I had to order the die set.  :o)  The butterfly image is boosted up into three different levels by pop dots. A red ribbon with a double-looped bow runs across the bottom. The sentiment is accented on the corners with a Crop-A-Dile Deco Corner Punch, and the edges are inked in red. To add some interest, I sprayed the card with gold glitter dust.

Here is the card:

A Little Birthday Birdie with Dimensional Layers

Today I want to enter a card at Joan's Touch for this week's challenge which calls for us to use at least one item sold at Joan's Gardens and an image which is layered. We may use any color.

The image is a sweet little one-legged birdie that I got from somewhere on the internet; she is die cut into three layers with Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Two. She is placed on a white layer embossed with a Cuttlebug Happy Birthday EF, which is laid on top of a turquoise layer. The embossed layer is inked with a blend of green and blue inks. To add some interest, a PoppyStamps Lorelai Leaf die cut in two different colors is added and to finish the card, twine is wrapped around the layers and tied with a bow with a little button accent.

Here is the card:

This angle shows the dimensional layers of the die cut:

Perfect Peace

I don't know about you, but sometimes the layout and content of a card is a complete mystery to me when first starting out. Today's card is an example of that. It started with a completely different look at first and kind of morphed into the creative expression that is posted below because nothing looked right. There was a lot of playing around with colors, dies and layout before the finished project happened. Below is the final process that happened after other stuff just didn't work (LOL)

I used some pink scraps of patterned paper that had been lying around for awhile. This was the first layer on the white cardstock base. Then a white piece was run through an EF, then inked with a brayer and glittered up. This was the second layer. The same pink paper was bordered with a Spellbinders curved border die. The sentiment is from a digi I found at Word Art Wednesday some time ago. I love the font, and of course, the Scripture is so good! A white butterfly was glittered and pearled; the upper left corner was pearled and a white and silver bow was run along the right hand side of the card.

These were used in making the card:
  • Spellbinders: Labels 23; Curved Borders Two; Wonderful Wings
  • Floral EF
  • Viva Ice White Liquid Pearls
  • Silver and white ribbon
  • Pop Dots
Here is the card:

Black and White Thank You

I have been gone for almost a week and have not posted anything for a few days, but really wanted to enter a card at Joan's Touch for this week's challenge which calls for us to use at least one item sold at Joan's Gardens, black and white, scallops and dimension. If you have not visited Terri at Joan's Gardens, you are in for a real treat because not only does she sell at a discount, but she only charges for her shipping costs, which is so fair!

Using black and white papers and white vellum, these tools were used:

  • Memory Box: Vivienne Butterfly; Darla Butterfly
  • Spellbinders: Deckled Rectangles Large; Fancy Lattice; Adorning Squares
  • Fiskars: 1 1/4" Scalloped Circle Punch; Tiny Butterfly Punch
  • Paper Shapes: 1 3/4" Scalloped Circle Punch
  • DieNamics: Fancy Flourish
  • Cheery Lynn: Dancing Doily Lace Border
  • Martha Stewart: Royal Butterfly Punch
  • Viva Ice White Liquid Pearls
  • Black and White Polka Dot Ribbon
  • Black and White Patterned Paper

Here is the card:

Cast All Your Anxiety on Him

Today I got some new dies in the mail. Don't you just love when that happens?

So, using the Delicate Asters die and the Floral Ribbon background piece, I added some new greenery pieces from new dies and came up with a pink and white card which is pictured below.

Psalm 37:5

Today's card uses some different elements which I have used before.

On top of a plain green background, a patterned vertical striped paper was laid down, then a horizontally striped piece of clear shelf liner was laid on top of that for added interest. More patterned paper was run through a Spellbinders Fancy Lattice die and laid on top of that. Then a piece of burlap. Leaves are from a Die-Namics Fancy Flourish die and a Martha Stewart Five Leaf Punch; the flower is punched from SU Pansy Punch and another five-petal punch that was in my drawer. Butterflies are from Cheery Lynn Pippi Butterfly die and a Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch. Sentiment is from Fred She Said. Liquid pearls and a cheap dollar store earring finish the project.
